Pre wedding photography sessions are a relaxed lifestyle session capturing a mix of fun and intimate portraits documenting your love story.
Whether it’s to capture your love story in pictures or get comfortable being photographed before the wedding day, I can’t recommend them enough.
The couple also have an opportunity to experience how I work prior to their special day. Plus you are also starting your collection of family photos and investing in experiences and memories, what will one day become treasured heirlooms that you can share with your kids.
Most couples I photograph have never had their photo taken professionally before. I often have couples tell me “I’m awkward in front of the camera” which can be an overwhelming thought when organising your wedding photography. That is why I recommend organising a pre-wedding shoot.
My couples are never left standing there not knowing what to do. I do provide easy directions to help the couple feel at ease whilst still capturing them in a natural way. My approach to photographing couples, is to first acknowledge each couple is unique and have their own personalities and way of connecting with each other. I do believe the pre-wedding photoshoot experience is one of teamwork between myself and the couple, but all I ask of my couples is to have fun, be spontaneous and trust me.
As a pre-wedding photographer, I am looking to capture an authentic connection between the couple. Love and affection is shown in many ways, and it’s your connection together that I am seeking to capture, so I urge my couples to let their barriers down and just enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. Through simple directions, I will help translate your love story into beautiful images.
Trust me, all the couples that have come before you, have had those same nervous feelings about having their photos taken. But you can see throughout my pre-wedding photo portfolio, that the couples look at ease in front of the camera and utterly in love, results from years of experience specialising in photographing couples.
I would love to capture you and your partner at this exciting time in your love story journey.
What’s included in a pre-wedding photography session?
A pre-wedding photography (or engagement) session ranges from 1-2 hours in a location that has meaning to you or somewhere that reflects your personalities and or lifestyle. The session is structured in a very casual, laid-back way, utilising my natural wedding photography style so its more like us hanging out as friends and I take a few snaps along the way. All good fun!
Pre-wedding or engagement sessions can be booked as a separate session or added to your wedding photography package.
From your session, couples receive a stack of edited high-resolution digital files suitable for printing, sharing on social media, their wedding website and save the date cards.
Let’s start the conversation about me documenting your love story.
Pre-Wedding Photography Locations In Sydney
The location for your pre-wedding photography session could be amongst big trees in a forest or the countryside with breathtaking views, in a city laneway, at the beach at sunset to capture those golden rays, hanging out at your favourite cafe or even snuggled up at home on the couch, maybe cooking up a storm in the kitchen … oh and if their is a fur baby, we can absolutely include them too! Check out my article on how to incorporate your pet/dog into your wedding day. A location is just a backdrop or scene in your love story, with the emphasis on personality, having a laugh and you two together.
What to wear for your pre-wedding photography session?
Keep in mind we want to capture your authentic story so you’ll want your outfit to reflect your personal style. It’s not a fashion shoot, but you do want to look stylish. Make sure your outfits work together but still show your personalities.
Avoid wearing clothing with branding or strong patterns.
Neutrals work well but don’t be afraid to add in some colour, just make sure the colours don’t clash.
Try searching Pinterest using ‘what to wear engagement photos’ and a stack of inspiration will pop up. Ive even made a start for you on my What To Wear Pinterest board – click here. Then just find a style that resonates with you.
We will have time for an outfit change, so feel free to bring a second and possibly a third outfit for each of you, to mix it up and so we have options.
Girls, make sure you bring some accessories but probably avoid short skirts as that can limit the sitting down positions. It’s definitely worth treating yourself to professional makeup and a trip to the hair salon (especially if those roots need touching up) before the session. If you can, organise your wedding hair & makeup trial on the morning of the session day. I highly discourage having a spray tan on the day of the shoot, if you are going to fake tan, at least have your tanning session a few days before and please don’t go crazy with the colour, go for the most natural spray tan as possible. Please note that spray tans do photograph differently to how they look in real life, and usually not in a good way! I do not retouch images to fix bad spray tanning!
Boys, I recommend long pants, shorts can be a little too casual, especially when your girl is going to a bit of trouble, that’s the least you can do fellas.
Don’t feel you need to go out and buy a new outfit, but hey Im not going to stop a girl or guy going shopping … haha!
